I “fell in love at first sight” with brows after working as a makeup artist for over 5 years. I have worked in many beauty retail stores such as Sephora, MAC, Bloomingdales, etc. and I absolutely hated working almost every single evening, weekend and holiday when all of my friends and family were out having fun. Taking a vacation was such a hustle, I had to request it only during the slow times of the year, could not take off more than 2 weeks total a year.
I just had my first baby and I could not take it anymore! I knew I needed a change, I knew I needed to learn a skill that I would not only love, but give me a more flexible schedule and more financial freedom. I also needed a career that would be sustainable long term. I had zero desire to be working in retail until the day I finally retire. That is when I came across Microblading in 2016 and I knew I had to give it a shot. I researched all the schools in Northern Virginia that offered Permanent Cosmetics training and let me tell you, there weren't many at the time and not one of them seemed very impressive but I had to pick one so I could get my license in order to legally work in VA. With that being said, I had to pick the best one I could amongst all of the bad ones that were out there.
And that's pretty much how it was. Our trainer just graduated the same course six months before she started teaching our class, Their knowledge was very poor, and their technical skills were just as bad if not worse.
We also received a cheap student's kit with a $20 machine from Alibaba, 5 sub-standard pigments and some other supplies that should never be used on another human being. We had no models to practice on. We were told to practice on each other. And when we did have a model, all 10 of us worked on the same person doing eyebrows, lips or eyeliner. Trust me, it did not look good. It was a mess! I still feel bad for those poor models.
Somehow, I was able to study the book by myself and pass the state board exam the first try and get my license right away. However, was I ready to work on my own? Was I ready to tattoo people's faces after this "training"?
Absolutely NOT!, I was terrified. Well, guess what, I had to take another six month long course in order to feel like I learned something and build up enough confidence in my skills, before I had my own first model. I have probably spent at least 3-4 years and about $30k on various trainings after that first model to finally and fully understand how all these procedures truly work and to feel confident and happy about my healed work.
I have traveled all over the US, Ukraine and even Ireland to acquire the knowledge and skills I am about to share with you so, you can skip all of those painful steps in your career. I have met both amazing instructors with the bad ones along the way, so I have a pretty good understanding on what to do and what not to do when it comes to teaching beginners.
I have been in your shoes, I got you!
